That was quick!
Two days following the announcement that Tom Ford was stepping down from his namesake label, the designer’s right hand man, Peter Hawkings, has been appointed creative director.
Having worked alongside Mr. Ford for nearly 25 years, having held the position of senior vice president of menswear at Tom Ford since 2013, Hawkings will now oversee all the brand’s womenswear, menswear and accessory categories, as well as the brand’s catwalk collections.
“In Peter Hawkings the brand has found the perfect Creative Director,” says Tom Ford. “Peter began working with me 25 years ago as a menswear design assistant at Gucci and rapidly worked his way up to become the senior men’s designer at the company when he left to join me at the Tom Ford brand. Since the creation of Tom Ford menswear, Peter has been instrumental in the success of the brand. He is an incredibly talented leader with tremendous industry experience, and his appointment gives me confidence that my commitment to creating fashion products with the highest level of design and quality will continue.”
Mr. Ford and his former chairman, Domenico De Sole, will still be involved with the business as brand advisers, whilst Guillaume Jesel has been appointed the brand’s president and CEO after leading Tom Ford beauty for close to a decade.
The appointment follows the release of Ford’s retrospective final womenswear collection, which saw the designer revisit his favourite looks from the last 13 years. In November of last year, Ford sold his label to Estée Lauder for an impressive $2.8 billion.
Following the sale, Ford has announced he will focus his attention on films under his production company Fade To Black. Ford’s last feature film was Nocturnal Animals, released in 2016.
