Paul Smith To Show Men’s and Womenswear Collections Together

Another day and another announcement of merging fashion genders into one whole. Or something like that. It’s early, we’re only on coffee two, we’re not making much sense. Anyway, moving on, like the Spice Girls before him, those pioneers of 2 becoming 1, so Sir Paul Smith is also doing his own version of 2 become 1 by choosing to combine his menswear and womenswear into on single catwalk collection for AW17. Well it kind of makes sense, his designs are nothing if not gender fluid. To be shown in Paris in January, not only is he merging his shows, but he’ll be straddling the fine line between mens and women fashion by presenting his show on the last day of the mens fashions and the eve of the Haute Couture collections. Paris is also where is first ever menswear show took place, back in 1976. To quote Sir Paul himself, “as an independent business, we can be very agile and address the changes in the evolving market in interesting ways. I’m excited to be taking the women’s catwalk show to join the men’s in the heart of Paris to where it all began in the seventies. Exciting times ahead!” Exciting times indeed.
