It’s London Collections: Men. What! It’s enough to make one start drinking a large measure of vodka. Oh wait, we already did. Last night, in fact, as Phoebe, Natalie and I took the short walk across to Paul Smith’s Albermarle Street store, where we collectively celebrated punk. Yep, punk. All 40 years of it. Black garments were suitably donned. Hosted by the BFC, it was all about Derek Ridgers, who, if you don’t know already, is a very very good photographer, famed for his photographs of London’s punk scene during the 1970s. Which handily, as demonstrated by Paul and Derek in the image above, have been compiled into Punk London 1977 “a raw and honest account of the 70’s punk scene.” Having been purchased by all members of the Ten team, we can report that yes – it’s very good. The store is also hosting an exhibition of Derek’s work in the basement, part of Punk London, a “year long programme of gigs, exhibitions and films will look back at the excitement and energy of the movement’s genesis.” And, if that wasn’t enough Derek for you, you can also wear him across your chest. Well, one of his pictures – by way of a limited selection of t-shirts printed with one of his iconic snaps, modelled last night across the chests of the many pectorially-blessed waiters. Yum. And they’re only £80. A steal.
