This November we’re in for a treat. Yep, photog Juergen Teller is teaming up with London’s Alison Jacques gallery to bring us a special exhibition of archive material from The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, marking the artist’s (would be) 70th Birthday. Teller seems a thoroughly apt choice in our opinion – the ‘only choice’, according to the gallery. No wonder, this is a power pairing – a meeting of art world goliaths. They go together like, um… Stevie Wonder and sunglasses? “There are obvious parallels between these artists and I am excited to see how Juergen will bring his edge, energy and unique vision to a new reading of Robert’s work,” said Alison Jacques, owner of the gallery. It seems to come as we are going through a bit of a Mapplethorpe moment – at Pitti Uomo, Raf stuck the New York photographer’s images all over his SS17 collection and before that, the release of HBO’s documentary Mapplethorpe: Look At The Pictures. Frankly, here at 10 we are having trouble holding in our excitement. Make sure to carve out a large portion of time this November – don’t miss it.
Teller on Mapplethorpe opens at the Alison Jacques gallery and runs from 17 November 2016 – 7 January 2017. More info at: alisonjacquesgallery.com
