Miu Miu might be the buzziest brand in the fashion arena right now, but beyond the ballet flats and underwear-as-outerwear, the Milanese label is dipping its toes into the extraordinary world of books. Now open in Covent Garden’s Piazza (located on the side opposite the back entrance of Royal Opera House), Miu Miu’s ‘Summer Reads’ kiosk/reading patio is open for all your bookworm-ing wills. From 11am-7pm, today and tomorrow only, visitors can queue up to receive free copies of two out of three seminal texts by female writers including Alba de Céspedes’ Forbidden Notebook, Sibilla Aleramo’s A Woman and Jane Austen’s Persuasion. There are Miu Miu branded popsicles up for grabs too, making the pop-up the perfect summer pit-stop.
Kicking off in conjunction with the London pop-up, Miu Miu is travelling to selected cities across the world to unveil a series of special paperback-aligned initiatives, taking over and customising existing newsstands or newly constructed locations. Today and tomorrow, ‘Summer Reads’ will land in Milan, Paris, New York, Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong and from June 8 to 9 will stop off in Tokyo.
‘Summer Reads’ arrives as an enterprise designed to further Miu Miu’s ongoing commitment to contemporary thought, culture and the arts, with each book selected for its “author’s brave and powerfully influential status as female creator” who broke free from convention and the “boundaries of gender”. Wherever you are in the world, join Miu Miu this weekend and prepare to hit the books.
