Elegance doesn’t get more opulent than a Miss Sohee collection. A creator of worlds which overflow with grandeur and oodles of fabric, creative director Sohee Park opted for an ode to the noblewomen of the Korean Chosun dynasty this SS25 couture season. Springing off the concept of couture as a blend of art and fashion, silhouettes were inspired by sculpture, sometimes obviously, sometimes less so.
Curving, pearlescent bodices topped slinking velvet gowns. Shell-like structures shrouded shoulders, and oyster-like jaws crafted from leather popped over hips. Black chantilly lace was used to veil faces and craft corsets for a more sultry tone, and sheer gowns cemented this feeling of subtle sexiness. Layers of petticoats and draped silk were introduced to enhance the elegance.
There were references to traditional Korean dress through craftsmanship, with the traditional mother-of-pearl inlaying technique of Najeonchilgi used on bodices and accessories. Minhwa, a Korean folk art, inspired the grandiose silhouettes as canvases. Royal levels of elaborate, Miss Sohee’s design language is couture to the core.
