Me And My Watch: David Martin On His 20mm Cartier Tank

You can tell a lot about a man from the watch he’s wearing. Luckily for us, the gents featured here know what to choose when it comes to the best wrist candy out there.

David Martin, founder and editor-in-chief of ODDA

What watch are you wearing?

A Cartier Tank.

Tell us about it.

It’s a vintage piece from Cartier, waterproof and 20mm. It’s passed through generations in my friend’s family.

How did you come to own it?

I’m sorry to disappoint but I don’t own it! I would like one for sure.

What’s the story behind it?

This watch actually is owned by my good friend [photographer and model] Max Tardio. For me, watches are pieces for sharing and collecting memories. I don’t own many, I borrow and share. And this way, I connect brands, as well as friends, with an object I can carry forever. Max and I met in August for a cover of ODDA and I remember seeing the watch. We connected and I’m now wearing the Tank for a bit.

What do you love about it?

My wrists are super thin, and that’s one of the reasons I don’t own watches, as I wear them when I feel it makes sense for me. This piece is particularly interesting, because the size is perfect for me as well as the weight, which is extremely light.

When do you wear it and what do you wear it with?

From very casual to more dressed options, but generally, I wear black on many occasions. The watch can match in all situations, from daily life to any cute dinner.

What would be a dream watch for you to own?

I dream about owning the watch of somebody in my life I love and admire so I can remember forever the essence of that person. What’s unknown yet is if that person is already in my life or not.
