The show must go on! Business as usual at Burbs today as, post yesterday’s announcement that Christopher Bailey will be exiting the brand next March, the Brit house has, just moments ago, revealed its new collection. So, as we peel back the paper of our metaphorical early Christmas gift, what do we find inside? Or should we say who? It’s Brit actors (and occasional models) Matt Smith and Cara Delevingne, stars of Burberry’s latest campaign, both starlets looking really rather dashing in the house’s seasonal wares, photographed by Alasdair McLellan.
“Burberry has always been a brand that I have admired,” says Matt of the portfolio of images. “From the football stands to the macs on the runway. The chance to work with Christopher, who with his design and vision, has contributed so much to a brilliant British brand and indeed left a footprint not only on fashion but British culture itself, is a huge privilege.”
“I am so proud to share this new shoot I did with Alasdair McLellan and Matt Smith,” Cara agreed. “Thank you to the creative genius and my dear friend Christopher Bailey for involving me in this and all the incredible projects over the years. It has been and always will be a joy to work with you and the Burberry family.”
The collection itself is a celebration of British character and charm – clashing pattern and texture – shiny laminated trench coats sit next to soft Fair Isle knits, classic Burberry checks are mixed with Scottish tartans and super-sized block-coloured scarves. The brilliant “Giant” unisex totes that debuted at Burberry’s September 2017 show are back, here, in bold primary shades and finished with flashes of neon.
So go celebrate Christmas in the way it was intended to be celebrated. By spending money you probably don’t have. May we suggest that the Burberry store might be a good place to start?
