Let’s begin with the press release. We always find that’s a good place to start. “Travellers: explorers of antithetic iconographies, building their own appearance as they collect bits, assembling fragments into new wholes as they go along, editing cultures is their way to be.” Could we consider, then, Marcelo Burlon County of Milan’s boys and girls something of a global traveller? They surf, they backpack, they possibly drink amphetamine spiked fishbowls at a full-moon party in Thailand. Or such. We’re not entirely sure what goes on at such events, but we once saw it on Sun, Sex and Suspcious Parents. Think: there’s shirts with sunsets, long, skater-boy shorts (some continuing the collar with Kappa), shell necklaces. String vests, lightweight anoraks, palm tree prints, these wrapped, harlem-style trousers. Gap year chic? Kind of, but this is harder. Sexier, even. And all wrapped up in this effortlessness of Marcelo’s clothes – clothes that reflect what people are wearing, elevated into something that feels new. He’s very good.
