Devil doll meets Camden Goth meets early eighties Vivienne Westwood meets Queen Victoria meets Marc Jacobs last season. In a dark alley. In a Tim Burton film. How about that as an entirely-inadequate collection summary for the autumn/winter 2016 Marc Jacobs show, where models – including a much-lapped Lady Gaga – stomped out in towering platform booties in a charcoal-drenched collection of re-imagined Jacobs classics and billowing ball skirts. There was nothing precious about none of it, rather something hardy, meaty, satisfying clunky. A substantial show that was nevertheless filled with wonderful and wonderfully-desirable clothes. Who wouldn’t want a sequined sweatshirt with a puritan collar! Goodie.
