“Our dedication to the creative process transcends the garment, celebrating the anonymity of the lining and the hidden beauty in everyday archetypes. The Artisanal collection becomes an exquisite collage, where mysterious opposites are entwined through haute couture precision.” That’s what the always mysterious Maison Margiela had to say about their spring “Artisanal” collection. Not sure if those are from the mouth of John “the Don” Galliano himself as they’re credited to MM’s fave, the collective “team”. It would have taken a team to construct, for sure – the collagey bits crashed together panels of lamé, fil coupé, and cloqué jacquard, in patched together dresses or super-size trousers, in turn twisted to form an unconventional evening dress. The final result though bore all Galliano’s hallmarks, of inflated grand volume, embellishment, experimental fabric treatments, and design genius.
