“Finding the humanity and acknowledging the machine.” Maison Margiela love to get philosophical. But their menswear kine has always been subtitled “a wardrobe for men” and hence imbued with a sense of pragmatism. They called this show a pastiche of pragmatism, copy-pasting bits of replica duffels into coats, filets and… Um, just plain duffels. The MA-1 appeared again, the season’s favourite outerwear piece, but in Margielaland it’s distressed to within an inch of rags.
