Louis Vuitton Unveil Their Island-Inspired Menswear Pop-Up In Selfridges

No man is an island. Or so they say. Until now, we’ve never actually paid much attention to this turn of phrase, but we feel it might have some credence here considering that Kim Jones is a man and also loves islands. It was actually that love of his that prompted Kim to base Louis Vuitton’s entire SS18 menswear collection around the idea of island nations – their connectivity and isolation, their distinct cultural identities and the nuanced diffusion of social practice across an archipelago. And now, that very collection is coming to life courtesy of a new pop-up at Selfridges.

Inspired by the excitement of island hopping, of moving between culturally distinct spaces and appreciating what separates them as much as what sets them apart, outfits are fusions, marrying different masculine identities by combining fitted silhouettes inspired by scuba wear with mohair tailoring. And, while for many such pop-ups the accessories are somewhat of an afterthought, here they are centre stage; classic Keepalls and larger trunks have been re-engineered to include not only new shapes, but new colour ways and a new-look Monogram. The new, sports-inspired line, ‘Monogram Outdoor’ sees a blend of materials including canvas, cording and neoprene, employed in a range of activewear garms – ideal for all island-based activities. Now we just need to book the holiday.
