Louis Vuitton has been named as the official partner of Real Madrid Football Club. In an announcement made last week, the French house revealed it will be the official producer of the team’s Formal Wear and Formal Travel Wear collections for both the women’s and men’s branches of the beloved club. Currently home to some of the biggest names in the beautiful game, from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé for the men’s squad to Linda Caicedo and Olga Carmona for the women’s, this multi-year partnership will be the first time LV has placed the house’s expertise in tailoring at the service of some of football’s best athletes in a celebration of the pursuit of excellence.
The announcement comes as part of a wider shift in the relationship between fashion and sport, with recent years seeing an increase in cross-industry partnerships like Arsenal FC teaming up with streetwear star Aries and Burberry tapping Phil Foden and Eberechi Eze for a campaign surrounding the 2024 Euros. This is not the first time Louis Vuitton has broached the world of sport either, having previously designed bespoke trunks to hold the trophies of some of the industry’s biggest competitions, including football’s Ballon D’or and motorsport’s Formula 1. The luxury house was also responsible for crafting the medal trays for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
Speaking on the announcement, LV’s creative director for menswear, Pharrell Williams said, “Real Madrid stands for excellence and evolution – always pushing forward. That energy fuels what we do at Louis Vuitton. This wardrobe was made to move with that same spirit – pieces that travel with purpose, strength and style.”
A collision of two of the greatest players in their fields, this collaboration marks a notable development in the relationship between sport and fashion, with the former doing the winning and the latter making sure they look good doing it.
