Vieux, nouveau, LV – that’s French for old, new and… um, LV. That works in any and every language. The theme of Kim Jones’ latest Louis Vuitton show was the first two – a melding of Paris past and present, to create something for the future. “Future heirloom” he called it – apt, as his neat suits, sleek accessories and witty trunks (mirror-lined vanity-case come micro bar, complete with ice-bucket, anyone?) will soon be in the LV archive, and perhaps in their own exhibition, like the blockbuster “Volez Voguez Voyagez” one on at the Grand Palais. Jones’ conversation between today and yesteryear was striking because it highlighted how luxurious Vuitton has always been, and how Jones can find a new language, season after season, from that constant flux of luxe.
