When you think about it, before Louis Vuitton became known for their cutting edge fashions, they more well known for their cutting edge luggage. Trunks so big and custom designed that should you so desire you could probably get one large enough to fit your whole house inside. So why not celebrate that craftsmanship and heritage in the form of an exhibition? One staged no less in Asnieres-sur-Seine, home to Louis Vuitton since 1859. Curated by Judith Clark, and to quote from the press release, “visitors can feel the beating heart of the Asnières ateliers which, to this day, continue to make the most exceptional pieces of Louis Vuitton’s leather goods collections. This unique savoir-faire is also endlessly renewed, to reflect the ever-changing catwalk trends and the vision of the House’s designers. In displaying elements of the Vuitton family home and its special craftsmanship, this constantly developing exhibition presents the House as a vector of creation and creativity. Located on the historic Louis Vuitton grounds in Asnières-sur-Seine, the exhibition presents a multiple space, a blank canvas on which many different films can be projected and layered, each telling of a different adventure”. And how does one best celebrate an exhibition, or should that be celebration of ones heritage? With a garden picnic obviously. And champagne. Well, you can’t have a celebration without champagne. That’s just called drinking.
