When tasked to create a fashion story based around the theme of healing for the new issue of 10 Magazine, New York-based stylist, Mecca James-Williams, instantly thought of Jamaica. “I wanted to honour the place that has helped me heal and mend so many parts of myself,” says James-Williams. “I humbly approached this lens with the opportunity to elevate and spotlight individuals, artists, models, and the special people of this country.”
Working with one of her “favourite creative partners”, photographer Destinee Condison, James-Williams journeyed across the island, capturing the young talents who exemplify the future of the nation. From CFDA-nominated designer Moya Annece and record company owner Sankofa Sessions, through to Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, these images symbolise the joy of the island’s new creative generation.
