Kiko Kostadinov x Asics SS20IT’S HAPPENING!! London Fashion Week is kicking off today, and to say we’re excited would be an understatement. This is our home and LFW is the time when we get to hang out with all our friends while seeing what our local creatives worked on for the past six months. Call us bias but this is the fashion week that carries a sense of enthusiasm unlike any other, with emerging designers having a real platform equal to those of the greats like Victoria Beckham, Christopher Kane, JW Anderson and Burberry. The following five days will be filled with fabulous fashions in all forms – shows, presentations, parties… For everything that’s happening, do keep in tune via our always-there Instagram @10magazine (but if you didn’t already know that, then we’re a bit disappointed).
First in line on our jam-packed schedules is Kiko Kostadinov. The Fanning sisters (that’s Laura & Deanna, NOT Elle & Dakota) are showing their third collection under Kostadinov’s brand. Only graduating a couple of years ago, their fresh take on womenswear instantly garnered attention and, after just two shows, filtered ijs own clear visual narrative. Patterned knits in garish colours morph into retro-futuristic silhouettes – it’s a little bit of everything, mixed in with a few great shoe collaborations with Camper and Asics.
So, what are we in for SS20? Before they set the pace for the next few days, Laura and Deanna shared with us a little preview of their collection. As a visual teaser, they scanned in the footwear that will be part of the collection. Two silhouettes with Asics and one new one with Camper are enough to get us excited. What we also know is that they collaborated with artist Rosie Grace Ward on the set design as well as the invites for the show. Intrigued? Laura & Deanna Fanning: Tyler the Creator’s Igor, Shabjdeed and podcasts. Currently, we’re obsessed with The Drop Out: The rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes.
DB: How did the collaboration process with Camper and Asics go this time round?
L&DF: It’s always great to go to Camper in Mallorca and work with their development teams. We worked on bringing back a heel from their archive and creating a special moulded toe piece. We’re launching two styles specifically for Women this season with ASICS. One using a slim silhouette and the other focusing on their Gel heel.
DB: What piece from the collection that best encapsulates the collection?
L&DF: A spiral-cut moto-racing suit.
DB: Who was on your moodboard for the season?
L&DF: Urania, the muse for astronomy.
DB: If the Kiko Kostadinov boy is going to the horse races for SS20, where is the KK girl going and why?
L&DF: She’s busy – it’s hard to pin her down.
DB: What’s the best thing about designing as a duo?
L&DF: Having the luxury of working with a partner on the same wave-length.
DB: What’s the worst?
L&DF: Only plusses here.
DB: What fabric did you use most in the new collection?
L&DF: A double-faced satin is in most looks even if in small panels.
DB: Is the third time a charm?
L&DF: Third season has been great – we’ve continued working on collaborations and have a solid team around us. It’s been good to grow and develop with them.
DB: What’s the first thing you’ll do after the show?
L&DF: Get out of the studio! See a couple of shows, get out of London, see something green.
