If Brits love one thing, it’s a reliable classic; a cup of tea after a long day, a pint down the pub, salt and vinegar crisps – all beloved classics on our not-so-little island. Kickers, the footwear brand founded in 1970, has become one of those classics, with its recognisable Kick Hi silhouette finding a home in wardrobes across the UK for decades. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of said silhouette, Kickers have joined forces with another of the UK’s most beloved, grime artist Skepta, and his community-oriented brand Mains.
First teased on Mains’ SS25 runway back in September, the collaborative capsule will feature a new silhouette designed by Big Smoke and his team, coined the Kick Mule, as well as a version of the Kick Hi that’s been given a sharp twist. The former adopts a slip-on silhouette with a faux-fur lining that spills out the back, whilst the latter is classic in its shape, adopting updated colourways such as dark green with off-white accents and a grey snake print. Both crafted in soft, but premium, quality leather, these elevated kicks will be available to buy from a Mains pop-up in Soho. The drop also pays homage to the music community close to the heart of Mains, with Skepta hosting a rave at Dalston’s Visions on June 19 with a line-up stacked with emerging talent hand-picked by Big Smoke himself. Customers copping the drip within the first 48 hours will enter a ballot for £5 tickets (there are only 175 tickets up for grabs with all proceeds donated to the Liveline Grassroots Music Fund), so don’t sleep on it.
