Ever since they first came bounding down the runway at Pitti Uomo in 2017, we’ve lusted over JW Anderson’s collaboration with Converse. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, and this latest chapter is no exception. First unveiled during his recent AW18 co-ed show in London, the collection is a riff on the traditional brown shoe – the sort favoured by your Dad other smart gents, but here reimagined with a more casual, and dare we say it, millennial, twist. The bad news? No glitter. But hey, if everything were made with glitter it would surely depreciate it’s inherent fun and quirky value, right? Who am I kidding- that’s life, sometimes she glitters sometimes she doesn’t- we’ll be fine.
Anyway, this camel and blue palette speaks more to the serious, urban professionals that we are. Shot on the beach in Marseille by Larry Clark, the Simply_Complex campaign is part of Anderson’s ongoing exploration of Converse icons, with the Thuderbolt and Chuck 70 undergoing individual makeovers. “We approached it as a sneaker at first”, says Jonathan of the Chuck 70’s newest iteration. “But we introduced detailed elements and the suede exectuition that make it a sort of curious version of Chuck, ultimately constructing the silhouette as a statement shoe.” You hear that? Statement shoe people, forget the Ugly Sneaker trend that people claim to follow ‘ironically’, and head straight to Converse on the 2nd March to make a statement with your feet.
Converse x JW Anderson is available on March 2, 2018 from Converse.com, j-w-anderson.com and JW Anderson stores globally.
