JOHN VARVATOS: MILAN A/W 12 BACKSTAGE BOYS DAY 1

In womenswear, (some time ago now)…It was all about the model off duty. From John Varvatos’ urbanite offerings for A/W 12, we got the sense of what a male model (the super pretty sort at least) might wear running about town from one go-see to the next. Which town- you ask? NY to be specific. A little film was played before the boys came stomping through, explaining (via animated montage) the cities architectural points of inspiration, from the Chrysler building to the Guggenheim. But for us it was all about the realism of a man about about town, and quite literally on the street. Perhaps the paved runway had something to do with it? He had us from hello (exit 1), in that way that certain male models do. It was rock star in the way you expect from Varvatos, and are male models the new rock stars anyway? They’ve the charisma (in certain cases), the schedule, the waifish Mick Jagger bodies, and tatts…always plenty of tatts.
