J.W. Anderson: The Force

Ml3XS

By the time you read this, the new Star Wars will either be on a screen near you, or is imminently landing on a screen near you, and the force will be with you once again. But if you think about it, the force has been with you for a while now. Since June 2015, at least, thanks to JW Anderson and his SS16 collection, which is surely a tribute to Luke Skywalker himself. Admittedly, Luke did not feature in the trailer, leading to speculation that he had headed to the dark side. But think about it for a moment: what else could a pale, blousy trouser worn with a slightly voluminous blouson – boat necked and cap sleeved, in some cases, for a more muscular silhouette, or fitted and knitted in others – not to mention the karate jackets and obi-type cinching, refer to, if not Luke when he was still on the side of good? Which he might still be, for all we know. And we ought to confess that we’ve never seen Star Wars, in case there are any fans who happen to be reading this and are now slightly confused. And did we mention the bags? Bags are the new light sabres. Though these weren’t exactly bags per se. More metal frames hung with charms. A sort of 2D mobile. Hanging your possessions off a frame rather than carrying them in a bag is the future, or rather the force, that will always be with you.
