The Topshop Unique woman for high summer is what I would like to call a Will Johns woman. Will, as I’m sure you are aware, is our Junior Fashion Editor and is famed for his insatiable lust for the finer things in life. And the Topshop Unique lady appears to be constructed from Will’s likeness, possibly from shavings of his bones, which were removed in order to achieve the perfect facial contour, or perhaps from the shards of skin that sparked off as he deep exfoliates that glowing visage of his. And not because she resembles his manly form – no, she is a beautiful blonde lady – but because she is a companion, a partner in crime, who, in the throws of a British summer positively radiates – a woman for Mr Johns to spritz in mists of expensive perfumes, to partake in sheet face masks and enjoy a Hugo upon the banks of the River Thames as they “take in” the Henley Regatta. The Eve to his Adam, basically.
[Note: a Hugo, for those not familiar with Mr Johns taste in alcoholic beverages, is a cocktail containing prosecco, fresh mint, lightly spritz water and most importantly, a drop of elderflower syrup. Elderflowers that, according to Will, must be picked between May – June. Otherwise, they are dry, he says, and nobody likes a dry elderflower.]
