Each with their own distinctive style, A$AP Rocky, Iggy Pop and Tyler, The Creator star in the latest Gucci Men’s Tailoring campaign, aptly titled Life of a Rockstar. However, it’s arguably Iggy’s pet parrot, Biggy Pop, that steals the show!
The campaign takes place in a Californian modernist mansion overlooking an LA skyline, as photographer and director Harmony Korine recreates the archetypical rock star lifestyle. Surrounded by luscious palm trees and illuminated by a golden Californian glow, these three musical forces (and now housemates), dance around in Gucci’s finest tailoring pieces of this season.
“The result is a group campaign with three men who I believe had fun too,” Alessandro Michele explains. “There is always this image of eccentricity because they are in fact eccentric themselves… It was beautiful to see these three men together, seemingly different but very similar.” In terms of the clothes themselves, we see Iggy Pop testing his knowledge with a crossword whilst wearing a white leopard print suit, A$AP Rocky in a hot pink knitted jumper paired with red suit trousers, and finally Tyler, The Creator, who wears a green sweater vest that could rival your Grandad’s, paired with a pink and blue candy-striped tie. The collection and the campaign are both sharp and fun, whilst providing a much-needed dose of male elegance. Michele explains, “perhaps elegance is something in the air that sometimes you are not even ready for. Male elegance can be unpredictable and strange.”
