Giorgio Armani: Menswear SS17

Giorgio Armani has clothes, fragrances, chocolates, flowers and hotels bearing his name – and that list is by no means exhaustive. Can it be long until he adds a private jet line? Armani Air has a ring to it. Anyhow, the point is his Spring 2017 show would have been the perfect opportunity to launch it, inspired as it was by crossing boundaries. That includes time zones – there was a hint of the Caribbean to graphic patterns, and a dusty desert tone to the subdued shades of grey, navy blue and – obvs – sand. Plus there was a certain internationalism to the clothes generally, the idea that these garments would be worn by jet-setters of all places, when they want to look or feel especially suave. That’s a strength of Armani. You also got the feeling Armani was testing his own boundaries, maybe crossing a few, by introducing a sportswear feel that resolutely chimes with the direction of fashion as a whole. Let’s not call it Athleisure – maybe Armani leisure? Another new line waiting to happen right there.
