Footwear Finds: XT-Mary J MM6 Maison Margiela X Salomon

The latest in MM6 Maison Margiela‘s long line of Salomon collabs, comes a new, sport-chic silhouette for AW24 that’s sure to have footwear fans in a chokehold. A mashup of a sports trainer and a classic American, strap-on Mary Jane, the XT-Mary J MM6 Maison Margiela combines the Parisian house’s long-standing history of referencing Japanese fashion (think Tabis, a staple since the debut Maison Margiela showcase in 1988) with the technologically-advanced, function-first design language that defines Salomon. The result is an almost too-good-to-be-true take on the Salomon XT-4 running shoe revamped with references to Kawaii (the Japanese subculture that’s all about the charm of simplicity and cuteness).

The XT-Mary J – made for the guys and girlies alike – is offered in two colourways: a pink and acid yellow sole with a terracotta orange top, or a navy blue monochrome. Both come with a slick Velcro fastener, a heavy-duty sole and intricate upper construction, while the iconic MM6 and Salomon logos shine like the sponsors on the side of a race car. Vroom vroom.
