Ester Manas deserves plentiful praise after its hotly anticipated return to the catwalk since last showing a year ago. Calling the new collection Missed You, designers Ester Manas and Balthazar Delepierre approached their AW24 collection like a soul-warming hug, translated through the heartfelt “Missed You!” cards sent to guests as invitations. Staying true to the brand’s body-inclusive designs, there was ruching and ruffles a plenty which manifested in the form of subtly sexy dresses that cascaded down the body oh-so effortlessly. Elsewhere, a mirage of scarves, matching scrunchies, densely frilled cropped jackets and a plethora of versatile bags – clutches, totes and cross-bodies – completed this season’s look.
An inclination toward the extraordinary prevailed. The jackets that swaggered down the runway were made of recycled nylon, while crisp trenches fashioned from deadstock Balenciaga fabric were collection highlights. There were also bloomers made out of sweatsuit fabrics, as well as tops and dresses with precise cut-outs around the armpits and scooped necklines that brought an edge to the collection.
In line with Manas’ mantra for complete inclusivity, there were elevated ribbed-knit pieces which purposefully championed womens’ figures, no matter their size. Further pushing fashion’s constraints surrounding size inclusivity, a pregnant model sported an ethereal, low-waisted ribbed skirt, perfectly complimenting her changing body. It was a brilliant return for Manas – welcome back, oh how we’ve missed you!
