Yup, you read that right.
Pop princess Dua Lipa – who opened and closed Versace’s SS23 show, first in an asymmetric, obsidian skirt suit and later in a safety-pinned magenta twinset dripping in sequins – and Donatella Versace are joining forces and co-designing a new La Vacanza womenswear collection.
A champion of collaboration, with Christopher Kane, Cher and Kim Jones team-ups under her diamond encrusted belt, Donatella isn’t new to the concept, riding firmly forward on the success of her past liaisons. “I have always been inspired by a collaborative design process,” the iconic designer said of the link-up. “Working with Dua on this collection has been very exciting and I love the dynamic between us. Dua is strong, fearless, and free and her creative vision is exceptional. Summer is a magical time. We will capture this feeling and the colours of that time of the year with a truly special and intimate fashion show in Cannes.”
Grammy-award winning artist, Dua Lipa said, “I am absolutely thrilled to have co-designed the women’s La Vacanza collection for Versace with Donatella. She and I have formed such a strong bond over the years, and I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received from her and the whole team since the very beginning of my career. For her to give me the honour of co-designing this collection and letting all my summer inspirations go wild has been a dream. I am so very proud of this collection and cannot wait to debut it in Cannes.”
The see now, buy now assortment will be available in store and on-line on Versace.com immediately following the show, which will kick off on May 23, unfolding concurrently with Cannes Film Festival running May 16 to 27 – though it’s not a part of the official festival calendar.
