Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy. It’s the motto of the design talent behind this high-octane and hugely successful luxury brand. The designer twins, Dean and Dan Caton, love the life of the customers they dress: it’s an all-out unapologetically sexy embrace of the fun and luxury. Life’s too short to care they say. Inspired by their love of Bruce Lee films, growing up in home country Canada, the two rewatched and then reworked various stylistic elements seen in Lee’s cult kung fu classics.
Pastoral scenes, floral prints, tiger stripes and growling tigers ready to pounce, were woven into, and printed on, a wide-cut parka and some standout voile and silk shirts and blousons. For evening, an embroidered floral fabric was skilfully spliced together with one half of a smart jacket – the boys are very good tailors. The Kung Fu sports scene came dissected, and then reissued, in gorgeous glitzy fabrics; the shiny black DSquared2 logo boxer shorts and Bruce Lee print tees will be next spring’s “click to buy” winners.
The big fight of the evening, however, was between the “masculine” boxing ring kit and the show’s more “feminine” pieces. A pink and white candy-striped lace shirt, a sexy black leather ‘70s-style vest and a gold biker jacket with saucy lace-up corseting detail were a cheeky, camp touch. The boys successfully traded the classic tropes of “masc” and “fem” menswear dressing against each other to create a kind of high-energy summer night in Soho look. So much fun. So much shopping!
