Sophia says this was amazing. We say this was amazing. Not that we don’t always say that Dries Van Noten is amazing, because it is, but today was especially amazing. Because this was Dries’ 100th show. So how better to celebrate with a bit of a greatest hits moment? Call it Dries’ Immaculate Collection. The show was prefaced by a book of prints on the seat – each one marked with their season – all those flowers, all those colours. And those prints made up the collection, pieced together in a kind of patchwork of brilliance and overlaid with new, geometric shapes – a reminder that even when he’s looking back, Dries has his eyes squarely set on the future. Because here his heritage was enhanced with the new – metallic suiting, that changed colour in the light, soft cords, luminous furs – that sort of magpie-like beauty that Dries has always done so very well. And, as is befitting such a collection, the wearers were not just any old models, but women who have worn his clothes on the catwalk since the very beginning and who Dries now counts as close friends – women like Amber Valletta, Caroline de Maigret, Alek Wek, Guinevere Van Seenus, Missy Ryder, Rosemary Ferguson… the list goes on. Must mention too our very own Fashion Editor-at-Large Hannelore Knuts who also took to the catwalk, showing, in the process, why she’s as supermodel and we’re not. Work, slay, shanty. A truly amazing fashion moment. So what else to say but: congratulations on your 100th show Dries. Here’s to the next 100. And a 100 more after that? We wouldn’t be surprised.
