‘Twas off to Naples for Italian adventures part deux yesterday, this time thanks to Mr Dolce, Mr Gabbana and their Alta Moda show. Basically an Italian version of couture. Molto glamoroso. Backstage Sophia Loren was all over the mood boards, and she was front stage too, in flesh and blood form, her importance compounded by the fact she was sat on a large red throne. This was inspired by her particular brand of Italian glamour – an opulent romp through the country’s history – bejewelled football shirts, a sort of sexy, mini-dress priest’s habit (and matching hat), “Miss Elegance” pageant sashes. Oh, and crowns. Poufs of principessa dresses. There’s much here to satisfy the country-hopping couture clientele. And us too. Boys, send us through a little something won’t you?
