Is anything sexier than a musician? Maybe a musician dressed in Dolce & Gabbana. Or maybe a musician BY Dolce and Gabbana, as their inspirations for Spring were music men, but not the sort that come from down our way. The Hot Sardines – a band, rather than an hors d’oeuvre – played at the helm of their catwalk as jazzy men in jazzy togs swung jauntily along a checkerboard dance floor runway punctuated with Hollywood Regency brass palm trees, like the swing clubs of old films. There’s a big dollop of Italiana in that aesthetic – we’re betting there were a few of those bars for hip cats back in Sicily, too. Those models had a spring in their steps – and well they might, toting Stefano and Domenico’s witty boombox-attaché case hybrids that can be plugged into an iPod to blast out music – those will take the “bored” right out of “board meetings” we reckon. There was, of course, nothing boring about the clothes, crashing together quavers and staves and leopard print in glorious combinations. And, like a big brass band, the result of all those different notes and riffs was perfect harmony.
