For Dior‘s AW26 collection, Jonathan Anderson joyfully played with the great house’s codes, bringing a satisfying levity and vigour to the pieces he presented on the catwalk at the Jardin des Tuileries in March.
Intricate craftsmanship mixed with drama resulted in loosened-up Bar jackets, deconstructed frock coats, collarless cardigans sporting fluted hems and lavishly layered tulle mini skirts replete with cascading trains, plus Chantilly lace, metallic jacquards and cosy knits in sculptural shapes; all imagined in sulky black and candied almond shades. It was pretty, but gutsy.
It was a collection to cement Anderson’s vision for Dior. And as this world is emerging, so are the talents that he and the French house admire. For this issue, promising German artist and actress Elke Biesendorfer embodies the collection’s mood: youthful, spirited and filled with a desire to riff on the classics…
