Roald Dahl’s “The Witches” has been fertile inspiration for Rei Kawakubo. She loves a witch – here with Cupid bow lips and flaming hair, like the one Hansel and Gretel shoved in her own oven to go up in flames. But Kawakubo’s witches weren’t menacing for spring – rather they were extraordinary, slightly seductive creatures clad in blue velvet, mountains of frills and ruffles, tucks and feathery stuff. Entirely bewitching.
