Jason Basmajian is the new man at Cerruti 1881 – their chief creative officer, which sounds a bit military. And indeed, there was a military precision to what he offered for winter 2016, in a tight palette of airforce blue, gunmetal grey and mess dress red. Tailoring underpinned the whole offering – the heart and soul of founder Nino Cerruti, who was also fixated on fabrics. Technical silk reversed to leather, tweed was woven in twill for a jogging trouser, shearling was fused with water resistant flannel. Innovative, but none of it alienating. A rare and difficult balancing act.
