Cartier Releases Libre Polymorph, A Collection Of Transformable Watches And Jewellery

The new Cartier Libre Polymorph collection takes its inspiration from nature and the way in which it’s in constant flux – evolving, growing, replacing and being replaced – which is imagined here across watches and jewellery. Part of Cartier Libre, the house’s boundary-pushing branch which is designed “with total freedom” by the creation studios and sets out to “surprise” clients with its constant pursuit of innovation across watchmaking, jewellery and accessories, and Polymorph, which signifies the designs’ ability to transform, it’s an incredible demonstration of Cartier’s unmatched savoir faire.

Imagine a bracelet that describes the sun’s trajectory through an interplay of sunrise-coloured gemstones, or a panther claw brooch that when pressed, reveals a miniature dial paved with snow-set diamonds. That’s Cartier Libre Polymorph. Other pieces include an open-work bracelet that blooms and contracts like a flower from day to night, a ring of four rotating discs of white gold, onyx and diamonds that mimic a solar eclipse, and a functional snow-set diamond-dripping carabiner. There are also spiral watch brooches and a shoulder jewel (a long, jewel-covered vine-like cord with a timepiece pendant that’s designed to be worn draped over the shoulder). Not to mention the modular earrings-to-tiara number that’s built from coral, emeralds, onyx and diamonds, exemplifying the maison’s exceptional expertise.

Unveiling the collection with an exclusive new bracelet and a celebration at Harrods in line with the luxury retailer’s 175th anniversary, Cartier Libre Polymorph continues its pursuit of innovative excellence. The ring-shaped bangle bracelet (a style which has been part of the repertoire since the 1930s), taking notes from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with powdered gold, combines golden threads with custom-cut onyx resulting in a truly decadent bit of metamorphosing arm candy. This unexpected collection is where unique sets transform in the blink of an eye and craftsmanship comes to life.
