FROM THE VAULT (SUMMER 2011)
Carine Gilson – The Knicker Queen
“I was 23 when I bought a small sewing workshop. The lingerie came as if it was the obvious thing to do. I was always fascinated by lace and noble materials.
Attracted by the perfection and the handmade work I decided to elevate it to the Lingerie Couture. I’ve always been attracted to the lingerie world, I think that it is very important for a women to be feminine above but also underneath.
It has something magical and very sensual.” She also collects Russian dolls.
SO, WHAT’S SEXY?
“The term sexy is not very appropriate for me. I prefer to define what represent for me sensuality. It is the art of seduction but in a very subtle and classy way. A little piece of lace showing underneath the blouse… It’s always a big challenge for me to create a new collection. I always try to go further than the previous collection. Each season I try to find new techniques and to improve our know-how, to approach the perfection.
I always need some pressure (or stress) to give the best of myself. But when the process starts it comes very naturally… Before I was looking for the inspiration now it guides me. I can be inspired by the choice of the Lace but also by the beauty of an object, a story or a woman. I think about some muse… I didn’t find her yet but I’m sure I will meet her once. Every woman has is own beauty and is in some way a muse for me.”
