Michael Rider has been appointed the new artistic director of Celine.
Mere hours after the news broke that Hedi Slimane was exiting the LVMH-owned house, it has been unveiled Rider will begin his role in January 2025.
When rumours began to swirl a few months ago that Slimane was leaving the house, Rider’s name was the first to crop up as a potential successor. The former creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren, the gig at Celine marks a homecoming for Rider, who spent a decade from 2008 to 2018 at the house working under Phoebe Philo.
A gradate of Rhode Island’s Brown University, Rider began his fashion career at Balenciaga, where he worked as part of Nicolas Ghesquière’s atelier from 2004-2008.
Congratulations Michael!
