All good things must come to an end, and this, Kris Van Assche’s extraordinary 11 year tenure at the helm of Dior Homme, is certainly one of them. Through his innovative vision for the House, Van Assche has greatly expanded the breadth of its appeal, blooding a younger audience via his streetwear tailoring hybrid collections, along with the bevy of contemporary cultural icons who have fronted his campaigns. “It is with great emotion that I thank my team, my studio and the ateliers”, Van Assche told WWD of his departure. “Their support and their unique talent and ‘savoir-faire’ have made all my creations possible.ˮ
Most importantly though, the fluidity of his approach and enduring sense of fun will likely shape his legacy at the brand. As Frédéric Sanchez, his trusted sound artist and music producer told us in issue 46 of 10 Men, “He can bring poetry and sensitivity to the most classic and formal things.” Van Assche’s work always felt personal, alluding to his adolescent years or unfulfilled childhood desires, his campaigns saw the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Boy George marry the past with the present in a way that always felt new.
