Bouchra Jarrar doesn’t explain the themes of her collection in her haute couture show notes. She tells us what the stuff is made of – handwoven hairy houndstooth tweed for a fabulous oversized coat, or bespoke blue twill for a pair of impeccably cut officer’s trousers. But you’re left to figure out your own notion of her inspirations. This time it was all a bit Napoleonic, sweeping coat shapes, dramatic layered lapels trimmed in thick golden braid, and those wide officer pants, sometimes worn with nothing more than a slick back-belted waistcoat atop. Well, it is spring/summer after all. Menswear that makes you feel even more womanly.
