Bottega Veneta: Ready-to-wear SS17

Happy Birthday Bottega Veneta! Yes, the luxury powerhouse is celebrating the big five-oh. So how better to celebrate one’s birthday than with a hefty dose of supermodel, past and present, man and woman? There was Karen Elson, Eva Herzigova, Clement Chabernaud, Edie Campbell, Gigi, Bella. A fairly fabulous guestlist, we must admit. And atop that pile of beauty? Well, Bottega shoved on another one. Yes, one more beauty to feed our just awoken eyes in the form of legendary screen siren, Lauren Hutton. She walked the runway too, looking – how should we put this? Fucking amazing. She’s considered bit of a house heroine, you see – she wore Bottega’s intrecciato clutch in American Gigolo, making it, like her, an icon. So the only question left is: what exactly does one wear to a fiftieth birthday party? Well, something glam. Obviously. This is Bottega, darling. A luxurious leather trench perhaps? A red leather skirt, fastened down the side and cinched at the waist? As demonstrated so ably by Miss Elson. But at the heart of the collection, and what Tomas Maier is so good at, was an exercise in elegant simplicity and restraint. As he put it, “for me, it’s always about the simple and easy things that are special for those people who appreciate them. The hard work in their creation is invisible to the eye, the result is a pleasure to wear.” We’re off to test that theory backstage.
