Last night the glitterati decanted to Los Angeles for the biggest night in Hollywood, The 96th annual Oscars! Hosted at the Dolby Theatre, the finest names in showbiz showed up and showed out in some serious lewks! Here, we’ve selected the best looks from the seriously glam-packed evening.
Does Zendaya ever miss? We think not, and the decorative rose silk Giorgio Armani Privé gown she wore last night to present the Best Cinematography award to Oppenheimer’s Hoyte van Hoytema was just another knock-out for the Dune starlet. Who else can pull off glitter embroidered palm trees?
Following suit with a glitzy Giorgio Armani Privé ensemble was 10-year Oscar veteran and Best Actress presenter Lupita Nyong’o, who has been effortlessly pulling off charming baby-blue hues since she made her Oscars debut in 2014. The sleek, flapper-esc dress she wore this season, was an ode to that look she donned when she won Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her role in 12 Years a Slave. It was a beautiful full-circle moment. Armani’s couture department also dressed Ke Huy Quan, another presenter of the 96th annual Academy Awards and winner of last year’s Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, in a burgundy blazer and made-to-measure ensemble.
Influencer Reece Feldman – better known on Instagram as @guywithamoviecamera – was undoubtedly one of the best dressed boys in a silky black sleeveless Saint Laurent top with matching flowy trousers.
Past Lives’ Greta Lee – a tried and true Loewe fan – sported a black and white draped AW24 piece, fresh off the runway from Jonathan Anderson’s Paris Fashion Week Loewe show which took place earlier this month.
School was in session with Billie Eillish’s sophisticated Chanel look. The singer – who won Best Original Song alongside her brother Finneas O’connell for their Barbie track ‘What was I Made For?’ – showcased a black blazer and white button-up combo with a matching tweed pencil skirt.
Louis Vuitton was a big hitter of the evening, with two-time Best Actress winner Emma Stone (rewarded for her work in Poor Things this time around) donning a custom made pale-mint gown to go with her brand new golden miniature-man trophy. The French maison also dressed Oscars presenter Cynthia Erivo who wore her Wicked character’s signature green colour (she plays verdant-skinned Wicked Witch of The West) and stunned the red-carpet in a slender leather dress with wide ruffled shoulders that extended into a dramatic train. The boys brought out their best LV lewks too, with Best Actor nominee (Rustin) Colman Domingo repping the house in a custom double-breasted suit and a bejewelled velvet bow tie.
Keeping things elegant and timeless was Kirsten Dunst with the help of Sabato De Sarno and his Gucci team. She wore a delicate all white gown with an eye-catching red lip and despite tripping over a giant Oscars 2024 statue while walking the red carpet with husband Jesse Plemons, maintained her elegant composure.
Ken, sorry, Ryan Gosling, also wore Gucci. His silver-lined suit was casual and slouchy, but he swapped it for a bedazzled hot pink tux, also Gucci, with a matching cowboy hat to perform his Best Original Song nominated ‘I’m Just Ken’ (Barbie) during the ceremony. Barbie co-stars, Simu Liu (our Fendi favourite) and Ncuti Gatwa (giving in Givenchy), joined Gosling on stage for the performance, but first they came suited and booted on the red carpet, reminding us how much we love good tailoring on a Ken.
Speaking of amazing suits, Poor Things cast member Willem Dafoe wore a stylish dark brown Prada and Best Supporting Actor nominee Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction) looked dapper in a Dior look with an elongated silky ribbon flowing out from the bottom hem of his blazer while William Belleau (Killers of The Flower Moon) chose a classic dark navy Dolce and Gabbana suit and added icy blue accents for a well-rounded look. Oppenheimer composer and winner of Best Original Score, Ludwig Göransson, also showed out in an all black Zegna ensemble.
Sandra Hüller, nominated for Best Actress for her role in Anatomy of a Fall, came to impress for the evening and in line with its usual dramatic flair, Schiaparelli supported. Dressed in a black velvet dress with a dramatic neckline and sparkling Cartier diamond necklace, Hüller was an absolute standout.
Adding a bit of Old Hollywood glam to this year’s show was Carey Mulligan’s Balenciaga look, which nodded her Best Picture nominated Maestro character, Felicia Montealegre Bernstein. Drawing inspiration from an archival Cristobal Balenciaga gown dating back to 1952, its lush black velvet mermaid silhouette featured a bright white pouffe from the calf down. Anya Taylor Joy was another true beauty in her tiered Dior Haute Couture gown. This year’s Oscars pulled out all the fashion stops. We can’t wait for the next one.
