Step Inside At Sloane, Chelsea’s Best Kept Secret

Love is many things. It can be red and heart-shaped, something you feel opening a box of chocolates, it might even be the feeling in your tummy that comes after listening to a Sade or George Michael tune. If we had to define it, perhaps we’d start by describing a night spent at At Sloane.

A taste of Paris in the heart of South Kensington, this vast residence, originally designed by architect Edwin Thomas Hall (of Liberty fame) is just a stone’s throw from the King’s Road, itself boasting gems like the Saatchi Gallery or the far more glorious Buns From Home. But …At Sloane commands its own orbit of leisure and respite, be that through delicate and fantastical nods to the arts and crafts movement that fill the spaces angular corridors, or the attentive care of its dedicated crew.

Upon arrival, visitors are offered a visual feast full of ornate decor, antique chandeliers and a collection of art and design tomes that would make the British Library blush. It would be remiss of us to not also fawn over the graphic tiling that gives this cosy yet sophisticated space its striking charisma. A cosy speakeasy downstairs plays further on the romance of this intimate composition, while a top-floor restaurant leans in on Sloane’s striking views of the city, pairing them with a coterie of pan Asian dishes like tom yam seabass, not to mention a world-famous cheesecake. Exclusively crafted champagne anyone?

Passing through corridor walls adorned with photos of couples in love, you’ll notice a blur of ’50s film stars and dreamy rock royalty, setting the mood for a night of classic romance. Lo-fi beats carry through to our spacious room, one of 30 bespoke designs that eat, sleep and breathe Sloane’s refined glamour. Guests are treated to a bespoke library hidden amongst the room’s wonderful architecture, a mix of concealed storage spaces and beautiful stained-glass doors. Rooms come equipped with an ambient ‘Love’ light setting, dousing the space in a honeyed glow almost tailor-made for unwinding.

Of course, no luxurious stay would be complete without breakfast in bed the morning after. In the light of day, the room’s sleek features lend themselves further to luxuriation, from automated blinds to a roomy waterfall shower. As for their late check-out? Let’s just say the whole ordeal will have you wondering about taking up a permanent residency in the building.
