When Astrid Andersen designed her first full womenswear line earlier this year, singer M.I.A., a favourite of Andersen’s, was the sort of woman she imagined would be wearing it. And, as fate would have it, M.I.A., who is currently prepping for a world tour following the release of her new album last year, approached Andersen with a view of stepping up her merch game – because, as we all know, 2017 is officially the year of the merch. God, I hate that word.
The collection, which launches today, is basically everything you’ll need to get #lit at your festival of choice: track-pants, tees and pull-over quarter-zip anoraks – the sort of thing Astrid does very well. The black version of the anorak you see here, is made from 100% recycled plastic that’s been pulled out the ocean, so you can have a clear conscience whilst simultaneously keeping dry and looking chic. Surely, that’s everything you could want from your merch and then some.
“I chose to work with Astrid because she is an independent woman who combines function, sport, simplicity and futurism,” said M.I.A, “It all very much suits my personal style because it’s utilitarian and you can wear it to a club because it’s light.” Noted. Astrid, on the other hand, spoke of her admiration for the rapper, saying: “M.I.A.’s message is strong and pure and her personality is strong willed and determined; that’s rare to find and that’s what made her so incredible to work with.”
