Dame Vivienne Westwood has always believed that culture enriches us and to that end, she and her husband Andreas Kronthaler, combined their lookbook shoot with a poetry reading. Dame Viv stood in front of the camera, dressed in a marvellous green corseted ensemble and golden shoes, her hair set into an imposing Thatcher-meets-Raine-Spencer up-do. After grabbing our attention with surely the best hair look of the season, she read ‘Dawn at Shih Ch’Eng’ by Li Ho. After that, she changed into a long, golden shirtdress and recited her own composition, ‘Tao means Way’.
Longtime Westwood muse, Sarah Stockbridge, read Li Po’s ‘Wandering up Ample Gauze Creek on a Spring Day’, whilst wearing a pair patterned blue hotpants, and rose printed boots. Model and harpist, Vita Leandra treated us to ‘Beneath the Linden Tree’ by Walther von der Vogelweide whilst showing off a silver-grey, silk corset dress. Andreas Kronthaler took his turn in a fetching mini skirt and skeleton tee, and read William Shakespeare’s ‘Where the Bee Sucks, so Suck I.’ The film offered just a snippet of the SS21 collection but it was a wonderful expression of the couple’s world, their values and their unique aesthetic. And like so many things that Andreas and Westwood do together, it was batshit brilliant.
