Altuzarra: Ready-to-wear SS17

“Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?” Sailor (Nicolas Cage) asked Lula (Laura Dern) in David Lynch’s Wild At Heart. Probably something along he lines of how Joseph Altuzarra felt about the 1990 film. Taking inspiration from Sailor and Lula’s epic love story, Altuzarra’s SS17 collection was dark yet playful. These were the kind of clothes you’d wear to pick your man up from prison. Romance came from tiered organza dresses, sequin embroideries, a sprinkling of cherries throughout the collection. And of course, Sailor’s snakeskin jacket was the core of the collection, reimagined into dresses that bounced as the girls walked. Altuzarra’s signature slit pencil skirts that were replaced by fluid silhouettes last season made a comeback in the belted cropped jackets, cinched at the waist. Shirt dresses meant business on the top and party on the bottom. And the ladies all marched to Elvis’s ‘Crawfish’. A little mischievous. A little erotic. Oo-er. These were fallen ladies, that Altuzarra embraced wholeheartedly – a collection edged with flowers, some stripes, and all finished with sheer black tights and heels. Ironic. We’re ready to have a Lynchian fantasy. Let’s run away to California.
