The chic vampires of “Only Lovers Left Alive” were Joseph Altuzarra’s unexpected inspiration. Wait, actually, vampires have always been chic. Think of Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger, sucking the life out of her prey in Alain Mikli sunglasses and Azzedine Alaïa gauntlets? And didn’t Hedi Slimane do very Count Dracula scarlet-lined black capes just last week in Los Angeles? Anyway, Altuzarra’s vamps were very vampy, with his signature high-running slits and flowing printed scarf dresses spangled with silvery sequins, as well as a natty selection of his super (and often underrated) outerwear: velvet paneled jackets and coats, buff shearling with Chinoiserie patterns like porcelain, and a slightly lower boot in precious brocades. It was a gorgeous bunch of stuff – you sort of wish you could live forever to get time to wear it all.
