ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: PARIS S/S 11

It was never going to be easy taking the helm at a house where the designer was so successful, and so defined the brand and its women in every way. But if anyone could there was really no better choice than Sarah Burton, who knows what is required to do this successfully. Having worked with McQueen for over a decade and grown up creatively with him, she took on this roll with absolute deft precision and managed to retain his essence, but giving it her beautiful feminine hand. Shoulders were a little more relaxed, fabrics a little softer, everything felt just a little like breathing out. It was a wonderful achievement from an incredibly talented girl and as Anabelle Neilson who was sat next to me said ‘it is her time to sing’.
