A Look Back To Celine SS13

SS13BS-Celine-136

A knot is a “fastening made by tying a piece of string, rope, or something similar”. It is also a “small, relatively short-billed sandpiper, with a reddish-brown or blackish breast in the breeding season”. Celine was all about the knot. The first type. Maybe not a knot in the traditional sense. More intertwined swathes of fabric draped across the body. Not tight. But loose. And in layers. If we were to, say, have some sort weird bondage fantasy, it would involve this. I mean, what would you rather have, some cheap rope, or layer upon layer of twisted satin by Celine restricting your movements? Not that this is restrictive in any way, for these obviously are not bondage clothes. Celine was also about the shoe. A fur shoe. A fuzzy yellow stiletto that resembled Big Bird’s slipper. Or a flat black leather sandal, sort of like a Birkenstock, lined in fuzzy fur. They looked very comfortable. And warm. They wouldn’t give you blisters. Which is kind of a first. In fact, the whole show looked comfortable, for want of a better word. Relaxed. Laid back. You could lounge around in this. Lie back on a chaise in some chintzy penthouse, cocktail in hand, and elegantly flip through a magazine. Maybe nibble on a grape. Or a cashew. Something cocktail appropriate. Maybe even the olive from your glass if you were drinking something that came garnished with an olive. The layers of glossy satin seem quite well suited to lounging in elegant locales. We have even kind of taken to thinking of the trousers – long, very long, so that they bunch up in delicate folds around the ankle and worn low – as a sort of elegant tracksuit bottom. Some might say it resembles those loose tracksuit bottoms Sporty Spice used to wear. The tops are also long. Together with the trousers they create the illusion of a lengthened torso. The body looks as though it has been swaddled by the fabric. Layers of satin twisted across the chest look like a shawl that has been pulled tighter. It’s almost as though Phoebe woke up one day, looked in the mirror and decided that she wanted to recreate her lounging-round-the-house ensemble. In satin. And did. Not that we know anything about her dressing-round-the-house habits. Unlike us, she probably does so in satin and has now decided that all of womankind should lounge in satin. Why lounge in bad flannel when you could relax in exquisite Celine satin and a furry slipper? Imagine how much you would save on heating bills if you had a furry slipper. Hundreds. So much so you could buy some Celine. The whole collection, even.
