Me And My Watch: Mobolaji Dawodu On His Rolex 34mm Precision Giudici Milano

You can tell a lot about a man by the watch he’s wearing. Luckily for us, the gents on the following pages know what to choose when it comes to the best wrist candy out there.

MOBOLAJI DAWODU, costume designer and GQ’s fashion director at-large

What watch are you wearing?

It’s a Rolex 34mm Precision Giudici Milano circa 1930s, retailed by Giudici Orologeriain Milan in the 1930s or 1940s.

Tell us about it.

It’s gold, it’s simple, it’s elegant and brown. All things I like in this life.

How did you come to own it?

I came back from a long trip and realised I wanted a watch. I looked online, went to a few vintage watch stores in the city, saw it and knew we were meant to be upon sight.

What’s the story behind it?

It’s powered by a hand-wound, chronometer-certified movement. It dates back to a time whenRolex allowed its most important retail partners to advertise themselves on its watch dials. What do you love about it and

Why is it your favourite?

It’s timeless and elegant, styled just the way I like it. I hope my daughter will wear it one day.

When do you wear it and what do you wear it with?

I wear it when I’m feeling good. At any time really, but especially when I’m wearing a suit. The watch is both quiet and loud. If you see it, you saw!

What would be a dream watch for you to own?

I’m not sure really, I’m not a big watch guy. I think this one will do me just fine for the time being.
